AustrAlian World Champion

At 12 noon today (Saturday 28 November 2009), the Victorian Croquet Centre buzzed with excitement as the best-of-five game final between Iman Elfaransawi (Egypt)and Alix Verge (Australia) commenced. The game was refereed by Gordon Smith of New Zealand.

Alix Verge won the toss and the first game 7 – 6; Iman Elfaransawi came back to win the second game 7 – 5 and the third game 7 – 3. Alix made a splendid comeback from behind to win the fourth and fifth games 7 – 6, 7 – 6. The final shot of the game was a brilliant jump-shot that took her from top-ranked Australian woman (Golf Croquet) to World Champion.

Alix Verge is the first Australian to win a World Croquet Federation Championship – ever.
Today Alix has made us all very proud and has also made Croquet History.
